About N i c a r a g u a
Nicaragua is known as the land of Lakes and Volcanos, and is slightly smaller than the state of North Carolina, but larger than South Carolina. Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America, with a multi-ethnic population of around 6 million people. Bordering Honduras and Costa Rica and in between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, Nicaragua is primarily an agricultural country producing approximately $300 million US dollars annually in exports. After agriculture, tourism has become the country’s second largest industry. In the past ten years, because of the positive influence of Nicaragua's tourism, the growth and income from tourism has increased over 300%. 60,000 US citizens visit Nicaragua yearly.
Nicaragua possesses a wealth of natural resources and stunning natural wonders. There are 50 volcanoes in Nicaragua with 7 that are active today. It's greatest resource, however, is its people. The people of Nicaragua welcome visitors with open arms and enjoy demonstrating to others the warmth of the Nicaraguan culture. It is now one of the safest countries in the Southern hemisphere, according to a new NPR report. Although Nicaragua is rich in resources, people, and culture, it is also the second poorest country in the western hemisphere.
Although one of the poorest nations in the world, Nicaragua is undoubtedly hugged by God. After countless natural disasters and political turmoil, Christ is still the center of the country and openly worshiped throughout the nation. We encourage you to visit Nicaragua and experience a new culture and see Christ move in a way you've never seen before!
